Service to Colorado Community
The association has voted to set aside money for contribution to local non-profit organizations in need of funding. Members seeking funding on behalf of an organization they support will have the chance to present the organization during a regular meeting. The presentation should include essential information about the organization including it’s objectives, needs, fiscal responsibility, etc. At the end, the members in attendance at the meeting will vote on whether or not the association should support this organization. ¨ Haiti Relief Fund In response to the earthquake in Haiti the association donated to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund. Find out how you can help at http://www.redcross.org/ ¨ African Community Center The association collected lightly worn clothing and household items for donation the African Unity Center. The Center helps refugees relocate to Colorado by providing basic services to make the transition to the US easier. To see pictures of items donated click here. Education about Akwa Ibom culture
In 2010, the association will work to participate in activities that educate people about the Akwa Ibom culture. One such activity is Africa Extravaganza. An annual event showcasing African culture. Association members will participate in this and other events to represent and educate about the Akwa Ibom culture. To see pictures from Africa Extravaganza click here.
Because scholarship remains a strong pursuit of this organization, the association will work to establish a scholarship fund for students from Akwa Ibom State pursuing higher education. |

Support of Education in Akwa Ibom State
· One major objective for the association in 2010 will be helping students in Akwa Ibom State. The association plans to contribute basic school supplies to local primary schools in Akwa Ibom State. Association members will work together with friends and relatives in Akwa Ibom State to select the schools with the most urgent need and to ensure proper distribution of the supplies. · The association will also work to build traffic signs for 3 local schools in the state. The traffic signs are designed to warn motorist that there’s a school nearby and prevent possible accidents involving students and motorists. |
